The Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye has inspected drainage works within the Kumasi Metropolis as part of a working visit to the Ashanti Region recently.
The projects included the Danyame River drain, Adiemera drains, Samad Hotel drains, Atafoa-Owabi drains, Kumasi Zoo drains, Sisan and Wiwi drains.
The visit was to afford the Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, first-hand information on the drainage situation in the area ahead of the rainy season.
The Minister during the inspection observed the inability of drainage facilities to contain excess volumes of water due to population growth, urbanization and climate change.
He said the Ministry would ensure that the drains are desilted in addition to taking steps to expand the drainage system in the area to contain the rainwaters.
Mr. Asenso Boakye urged the public to desist from disposing solid waste into the drains in order to collectively mitigate flooding in the country.
