CEO OF WATER AND SANITATION FOR THE URBAN POOR CONFERS ON KUMASI MAYOR

The Chief Executive of Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), Mr. Ed Mitchell, and a delegation from its Global office paid a courtesy call on the Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Sam Pyne at his office on Monday 25thSeptember, 2024.

According to Mr. Ed Mitchell, the visit was to familiarize with the Mayor and also find out first hand information on the collaboration between WSUP and KMA especially in the area of the provision of household toilets in low-income communities, as well as to meet the leadership of CLEAN TEAM GHANA in Kumasi.

He said he was grateful to the Mayor and the local team for the fantastic work done so far in terms of the provision of household toilets in the metropolis.

Mr. Mitchell expressed enthusiasm on the hospitality they have received in the city of Kumasi for the short while they have been here and added that they recently played golf at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.

Mr. Frank Nettey, the local coordinator for WSUP explained that the team were also interested to know the priorities of the Mayor so that they could strategize and know where to collaborate in terms of support.

Hon. Sam Pyne on his part said he was grateful to WSUP for their unflinching support in terms of the provision of household toilets in the city and called for more assistance in the provision of institutional toilets and its maintenance, as well as the financial sustainability of all water and sanitation projects in Kumasi.

Mr. David Abbam, Metro Finance officer also mentioned that through some support from other donors, the KMA now had a Central Data Centre to collate and monitor the day-to-day revenue activities of the Assembly, which he added, has improved the internally generated funds (IGF) of the Assembly.

He, however called for assistance in infrastructure to migrate the Sub-Metros to the Central Data Centre which he said was almost complete.

Mr. Ed Mitchell was accompanied by the Director of Programmes at WSUP and Mr. Frank Nettey, Local coordinator for WSUP. In attendance were the Metro Coordinating Director and other heads of department at KMA.
