BASIC SCHOOLS IN KUMASI RECEIVES DUAL DESKS FROM KMA

The Metro Chief Executive of Kumasi, Hon. Samuel Pyne has presented 2000 dual desks to basic schools in the Kumasi Metropolis at a ceremonial presentation at the Yaw Baah Community Library at Krofrom in the Manhyia North Sub-Metro District Council on Tuesday 14th November,2023.

Presenting the desks, Hon. Samuel Pyne said the presentation of the desks was the fourth in a row since the beginning of the year 2023. He said it was the Assembly’s vision and his, especially, to make sure education in the metropolis received a boost, since according to him, there cannot be development without education.

He noted that the KMA has over the years include deducation development in all its policies and endeavors. Hon. Samuel Pyne however bemoaned the lack of maintenance culture of public properties and called on the beneficiary students and their teachers to take good care of the desks to prolong its lifespan.

“The monies that will be used to replace these desks if they are not taken good care of, could rather be used to procure computers, marker boards among others to also improve teaching and learning in our schools” Hon. Pyne noted.

Receiving the desks on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Head of Planning at the Metro Education Office, Madam Judith Mensah Bamford said they were grateful to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the enormous support it has been given the schools over the years.

She cited the Assembly’s sponsorship of present and past MOCK examinations held for students in the metropolis and the construction and renovation works on classroom blocks as well.

Madam Judith Mensah promised the MCE of good maintenance of the desks and added that the Metro Education Unit had rules and regulations governing the maintenance of school desks and that her outfit was going to enforce them to prolong the lifespan of the school furniture.

She subsequently appealed to the MCE and the KMA to as a matter of urgency wall all basic schools in the metropolis to prevent deviants from entering the compound and classrooms after the school has closed.
