78TH REMEMBRANCE DAY MARKED IN KUMASI

The Metro Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Pyne joined the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah and Veterans Association of Ghana to mark the 78th Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph Square, Adum-Kumasi on Saturday 11thNovember, 2023.

The yearly ceremony is marked in memory of all veterans who died during the World Wars around the world. It is marked every year on the 11th day of the 11th month to show gratitude to the fallen ex-servicemen. 

The Remembrance Day which is also known as the Poppy Day is a Memorial Day in all Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the fallen heroes who died in their line of duty. It is also an important day to remember the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the fight for independence and in peacekeeping operations worldwide.

At exactly 11 am a siren was sounded in memory of all the falling heroes to appreciate them for their sacrifices.

The Ashanti Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) laid the first wreath on behalf of the President and the people of Ghana while General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang Prempeh laid the second wreath on behalf of the Security Services.

The Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Frank Duodo laid the third wreath on behalf of the Traditional Authorities and Asanteman while the fourth wreath was laid by the Ashanti Regional chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) Ex-WO 1 George Appiah on behalf of the veterans and VAG.

Present at the event were the Regional Commanders of the Security Services, Ex-servicemen, departmental heads, the clergy, the general public, and the media.
