4TH EDITION OF GREEN GHANA DAY TREE PLANTING EXERCISE MARKED IN KUMASI
The 4th edition of the Green Ghana Day tree planting exercise has been marked in Kumasi with a symbolic planting of coconut and mango seedlings at the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo by the Chairman of the Green Ghana Project and the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio.
The Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko; the Presiding Member of KMA, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong; and the Regional Director of Forestry Commission, Mr. Clement Omari also took their turns to plant their trees in the school.
Mr. Francis Dwira Darko in a short speech said the Green Ghana Day which started in 2021, is marked on the first Friday of June each year and that the Assembly decided to plant a symbolic tree for the 4thedition in the school and later metro wide.
The Chairman of the Green Ghana Project, Hon. BenitoOwusu-Bio (MP) noted that the last 12months has been the hottest monthsworldwide and as a Nation without the requisite solutions to ban petrol anddiesel vehicles for electric ones, tree planting was a simple nature-basedsolution to reverse the heat.
He implored the students to take good care of theenvironment by shunning the unnecessary cutting down of trees for a brighterfuture for themselves and posterity. The MP later promised to donate 1,000 “OneStudent, One Tree” T-Shirts to the school.
The headmaster of the school, Mr. Suleman Yeboahexpressed appreciation to the KMA and the Green Ghana Project Chairman for thehonor done the school by planting a symbolic tree in the school to mark thisyear’s edition of the Day in the Kumasi metropolis.
