President Mahama Launches ‘Adwumawura’ Programme in Kumasi
President John Dramani Mahama has launched the flagship ‘Adwumawura’ Programme aimed to tackle youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship in Ghana.
The programme launched at the Prempeh Assembly Hall on Monday, April 28, 2025, also seeks to create, guide and support for at least 10,000 businesses annually, targeting young people aged 18-35.
The ‘Adwumawura’ Programme is designed to provide complete support to young entrepreneurs, including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and equipment.
Through this initiative, ebullient youth would have decent jobs to contribute to the country's economic growth.
In his address on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Essumejahene thanked the government for introducing the Programme aimed to address ever-increasing rate of unemployment in the country.
He pledged traditional rulers’ readiness to support government to create decent jobs for the teeming youth, and advised the youth to stay away from social vices which have the potential to deny them of a better future.President John Mahama, addressing the colorful event, emphasized the importance of the programme in tackling youth unemployment, which he described as a pressing challenge in Ghana.
He highlighted the government's commitment to creating decent and sustainable jobs for young people, aligning with his government’s broader agenda to promote economic growth and innovation.
The initiative, he hinted, is being assisted by a GH?100 million allocation from the 2025 Budget.
Additionally, the government plans to roll out supporting initiatives, such as the National Apprenticeship Programme; offering free technical and vocational training to further support the youth.
The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, advised young people to take full advantage of the programme to build a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
He stressed on the government's dedication to empowering the youth and creating an environment where entrepreneurship can succeed.
The launch of the Adwumawura Programme was attended by bigwigs of the National Democratic Congress including, the national chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, and some national and regional executives of the party.
Also present at the event were scores of traditional leaders, leaders of faith-based, and civil society organizations across the country.
