WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY MARKED IN KUMASI

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service has marked the 2025 World Menstrual Hygiene Day under the theme “Together for a #Period Friendly World” with presentation of 5000 sanitary pads to some Basic and Senior High Schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Commemorating the day at the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo in Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, the Mayor of Kumasi who led the team to mark the day indicated that parents and governments want the best for young girls by empowering them to work to get their full potentials.

He said every student is trying to become a leader in future, and if government do not protect and also provide them with the needed support that will aid them in learning, then both parents and government would have failed in their responsibility as leaders.

He urged female students to pay particular attention to their menstrual hygiene to boost their morale and always feel empowered in their normal days as well as during their period. The Kumasi Mayor subsequently advised the students to take their studies serious since they were future assets of the nation.

Madam Joan Quarshie Jnr, Girl Child Coordinator at GES sensitized the female students on personal hygiene whiles Madam Winifred Darko and Madam Bertha Berko from the Metro Health Directorate and Suntreso Government Hospital respectively took them through menstrual hygiene.

Symbolically, 28th May every year is set to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
