MAYOR OF KUMASI LEADS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AT KEJETIA MARKET
The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, with support from his wife Dorcas, led a breast cancer awareness and screening event at Kejetia Market.
Addressing the gathering, the Mayor of Kumasi underscored the need for routine breast screening to ensure good health.
The Mayor stated that the management of the Assembly was committed to enhancing the wellbeing of the public, hence the reason to prioritise disease awareness campaigns and organise free health screening programmes.
The event, organised by KMA, saw hundreds of traders, predominantly women, participating and benefiting from it.
He was enthused by the participation in the event and urged everyone to take part in regular medical check-ups.
He thanked his wife, organisers, and the public for making the programme a success.
Mr. Jones Kani, Acting Metro Coordinating Director, heads of departments and units, and staff of KMA were also present at the event.
Priscilla Osei Bonsu, a nurse at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), educated the gathering on ways to detect abnormalities of the breast, advising that the hospital was the prudent place to report any unusual issues.
"Any form of dimples on any part of the breast, any form of pain, and any form of liquid coming out of the breast, whether green or white, means you need to be examined."
Concluding, she educated that raising one hand to the head and using the other hand to press the breast to feel for any lump, repeatedly for each breast, could help to examine the breast at home.
