KUMASI MARKS ‘WORLD AIDS DAY’ WITH SCREEENING EXERCISE

As part of activities leading to the commemoration of the ‘World Aids Day’, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in collaboration with the Ghana Aids Commission organized a free health screening exercise at the Asafo Market on Monday 13th October, 2025.

The screening focused on HIV/AIDS testing n blood sugar checks.

Nurses from the Maternity and Child Health Unit (MCH-Pampaso) led the exercise and provided education on HIV/AIDS and diabetes awareness.

Nurse Sarah Owusuaa educated attendees on what HIV/AIDS is, how it is transmitted and effective prevention methods.

She emphasized the importance of regular testing, safe sexual practices, and seeking medical care, while reminding participants that HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence and that early detection ensures proper treatment and healthy living.

She also explained the role of insulin in regulating blood sugar and advised the public to reduce excessive intake of carbohydrate-rich foods such as rice, bread, cassava and alcohol to maintain healthy glucose level.

This initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing effort, through the Ghana Aids Commission and Local Assemblies to promote health awareness, prevent new HIV/AIDS infections and encourage regular health checks within communities.

The KMA remains committed to supporting national health campaigns that contribute to the wellbeing of the residents in the metropolis.
