KWAME FRIMPONG RETAINS KMA PM SEAT WITH 100% ENDORSEMENT

Honourable Patrick Kwame Frimpong, the incumbent Presiding Member (PM) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has been retained to continue his mandate.

He managed to accumulate all the 58 percent valid votes cast in a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ elections, which was held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, on Thursday February 26, 2026.

Significantly, with the historic victory, Kwame Frimpong has now set a new record of becoming the first person to be elected as KMA PM for three consecutive times.

Last week, the KMA failed to elect a PM after Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong and Hon. Ernest Baffuor Ofori, who both vied for the position, failed to win two-thirds of votes cast to be elected.

Hon. Ernest Baffuor Ofori, however, opted out of the race prior to voting on Thursday and urged the assemblymen to vote ‘Yes’ for Kwame Frimpong to speed up KMA’s transformation.

The KMA Mayor, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi also entreated the assembly members to elect a PM for the KMA so Kumasi’s development could be accelerated.

He said the assemblymen in the KMA have stood firmly behind him since he assumed the mantle of leadership, so “We should elect a PM today and continue to work together”.

Significantly, the KMA has 66 members in total, which comprises of 40 elected members, 20 government appointees, the Kumasi Mayor and 5 Members of Parliament.

Fifty eight out of 66 members of the assembly were present on Thursday and they all voted ‘Yes’ to confirm Kwame Frimpong as the PM of the assembly to continue his work.

Hon. Kwame Frimpong promised to work with his colleagues in peace and harmony, so that the KMA would remain on the path of development for the benefit of Kumasi residents.
