President Nana Addo DankwaAkufo- Addo arrived to a tumultuous welcome in Kumasi over the weekend to begin a three-day tour of the Ashanti Region aimed at interacting with the people and to learn their concerns at first hand.
Crowds of people including party supporters clad in NPP colours lined the streets at various locations in the Kumasi Metropolis to catch a glimpse of the President’s convoy and to cheer as he headed to the Manhyia Palace to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
President Nana Addo thanked the Asantehene and people in the region for their massive support and the confidence reposed in him and the N.P.P. in the 2016 elections. He told the gathering that his administration was putting in place various policy initiatives aimed at improvising the wellbeing of the people and bringing relief to Ghanaians.
On recent developments in the region when some party activists attacked the newly appointed regional security co-coordinator to forcibly resume him from office, the President said his government would not condone lawlessness and therefore encouraged the police to apply the law irrespective ones political affiliation. On his part, Asantehene reminded the President that Ghanaians voted overwhelmingly for him to improve their living conditions. Otumfuo said the expectations of Ghanaians were high and therefore advised the President to stay focused and be careful of the people around him who in attempt to win his favor could tell lies and malign their colleagues for appointment.
President Nana Addo later on in the day held separate meetings with the leadership of transport unions in the region and market queens of the Kumasi Central Market, visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and also interacted with the media.
