Regional Minister Commends media

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexander Ackon has commended the media in the region for their support and co-operation which made it possible for his outfit to chalk some success in Ashanti.

He also applauded the media practitioners for their role in the widely acclaimed peaceful and successful December 7 polls.

Mr. Ackon made the commendation at a press soiree organized by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), at the residency in Kumasi.

The interaction with the journalist comes as the nation awaits the inauguration of a new administration on January 7, 2017 led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo who won the presidential election. The meeting with the media practitioners was therefore meant to highlight some of the achievements and successes of the outgoing NDC government in the region and to thank the media for their support.

“We have invited you here this evening to dine and wine with you as a token of our appreciation of the care and support we have received from the media”, he said.

Flanked by his deputy, Mr. Andy Okra and the chief director at the RCC, Mr. Kofi Asubonteng as well as the Metro Coordinating Director,Mr. Michael Ataogye, the Regional Minister made mention of some challenges that confronted the region in the areas of sanitation, security, Agogo Fulani herdsmen, illegal mining at Obuasi and Konongo among others and said some of these issues and challenges were addressed to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

The Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Kingsley Hope, in his welcome address,appealed to the Regional Minister to include in his handing over notes the uncompleted regional GJA office complex to ensure that the incoming administration completed the project.

He thanked the regional administration for the gesture and also commended the media practitioners for their hard work and contribution towards a successful and peaceful election in the country.
