Almere and VNG International Support "Me and My Tree" Project by KMA

Almere City and VNG International of Netherlandshave donated an amount of 3,000 Euros to support â??Me and My Treeâ?? Project byKMA. The city of Almere has a Sister City Relationship with the KumasiMetropolitan Assembly.

At the launch of the project last year, the Mayor ofKumasi stated that he has a vision to plant one million trees by 2017.

Mr. Isaac Adu Acheampong, President of Samenwerk inAlmere city  said Almere  and VNG International are interested in theâ??Me and My Treeâ?? project since they were also planting tropical trees inAlmere.

According to him, they decided to make the donationin order to encourage school children to plant more trees in the city.

Mr. Don Awantunga, the Chairman of the â??Me and MyTreeâ?? Project and Head of the Environmental Health Department, stated that theobjective of the project was to restore Kumasi to its glory as the Garden Cityof West Africa.

He commended the city of Almere and VNG for thegesture and called on other organizations and individuals to emulate them.

The project has a component dubbed â??Me and My Tree Competitionâ?? under whichschool children are expected to identify a site, procure seedlings and plant andnurture them to grow in a bid to restore the glory of Kumasi as the Garden Cityof West Africa.

Pupil and schools which excel would attract rewardsincluding computers, laptops and other learning materials.
