Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, has underscored the need to strengthen partnership between the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to address challenges facing the city of Kumasi.

 

 

He explained that the city is confronted with waste management, traffic and street lighting, among other technical and technological challenges, which could be addressed holistically if departments and students take a keen interest in proffering solutions to them.

 

He said research work from students and departments should be tailored to solving challenges of the city to create a serene environment to attract investors, create employment, and enhance development.

Hon. Agyeman Boadi made the statement when he received a delegation from KNUST led by its new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

 

He further stated that the city needs proper landscaping, reorganisation, and technological advancement to meet the standards of modernity.

 

He urged the management of the two institutions to work together and take advantage of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene’s continuous tour of the globe to woo investors, so that they could come up with innovations to address contemporary challenges.

 

The new Vice-Chancellor of KNUST was joined by some staff and leadership of the global alumni.

 

He thanked the Mayor for the warm reception despite the short notice of their visit, welcomed his proposal for partnership to develop the city and address its challenges.

 

He expressed the university's readiness for the partnership, but requested that it be formalised.

 

Among the delegation were Nana Ansah Sasraku III, Kyidomhene of Mamfe and Chairman of KNUST Alumni Endowment Fund, and Dr. Herman Addae, Global President of KNUST Alumni Association.
