KMA signs Sister - City agreement with Wenzhou

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has signed a sister city agreement with the Wenzhou Municipal Authority in China to promote bilateral ties between the two cities.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Kojo Bonsu signed for theKMA while Mr. Zu Liyi, the Chairman of the Wenzhou Municipal Government and leader of the delegation initialed for his city.

The areas of co-operation per the agreement include technological transfer, education and infrastructural growth.

Also under the agreement business persons from Kumasi and Wenzhou will be brought together to share business ideas and also explore ways of improving the business environment in both cities.

The signing of the Sister-City agreement comes barely three months after a delegation led by the city Mayor Kojo Bonsu,visited Wenzhou at the invitation of the Wenzhou Municipal Authority for sister city relation during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

Speaking at the signing ceremony Mayor Bonsu re-affirmed the KMA's position to exploring avenues to bring in more investors for the sustainable development of Kumasi.

He said the idea behind the sister-city relation was to open up Kumasi City for investment and therefore encouraged the people of Kumasi to embrace the partnership between the two cities for their mutual benefit.

Mayor Bonsu was hopeful that the relationship would contribute to the socio-economic growth of not only Kumasi but also Ghana as a whole.

He said both cities had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build a multi-story car park at Adum, the central business district of Kumasi to provide enough parking spaces for vehicles in the Kumasi metropolis and ease traffic congestion.

Mr. Liyi said Wenzhou had for some time now been a major trading partner for most African countries and said Kumasi would not be left out of these opportunities.

He said the economy of Wenzhou and Kumasi were highly complementary to each other pointing out that the two cities could co-operate in different areas including capital , human resource , technology and marketing.

He also said the co-operation would focus on improving the manufacturing and technology sector of both cities.
