


KMA GETS NEW MAYOR
Fifty-five out of 56 members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly present at the Assembly's Special Meeting held at the Miklin Hotel on April 10, 2025, voted to confirm Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi as the new Mayor of Kumasi.
The nominee was appointed by the President last Friday and endorsed by 98.2% of total votes cast in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.
The KMA has a total of 60 members; however, 56 members were present at the Special Meeting.
According to the Section 20 (1) of Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Mayor nominee needed approval from at least two-thirds of the Assembly members present and voting at the meeting.
Shortly after being confirmed as Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi was sworn in by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
In his remarks before swearing in the new Mayor, Hon. Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the urgent need for Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi to begin work immediately.
He stated that the recent Adum fire outbreak and other city challenges, required a Mayor to perform duties as prescribed by law. He appealed to Assembly members, technocrats, and security services to support the him fully in discharging his mandate exceptionally.
Overwhelmed by his endorsement, Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi thanked President John Dramani Mahama for his appointment, and equally thanked Assembly members for endorsing him, pledging to work hard with them to lift the image of Kumasi.
He also praised His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for recommending hisnomination.
He urged security chiefs, traditional leaders, political party leaders, and other opinion leaders to collaborate in his efforts to develop the city.
The meeting, chaired by the Presiding Member, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong to elect new Mayor also allowed members to form and elect conveners for various sub-committees of the Assembly.
In attendance were Mr. Michael Owusu Amoako, Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira-Darko, Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, Regional Chairman of NDC, heads of departments, units and agencies.
